Sewing a baby mobile

Bonjour Peeps!
     We are 30 days or so.....(working days for teachers)...away from spring break. My sister and I were thinking of how we are missing Paris....as you know if you read the past 2 years, we have spent spring break in Paris!

This spring break we will be welcoming our first grandchild! Ain't life grand?

SEW.....I received scraps from the baby quilt made by a very special Aunt Karry. (Thanks for sharing.....I like things that match!)   After an entire week of sewing.....don't judge....I haven't stitched anything in decades......finally....the completed mobile.

This pic shows the trials of sewing for me....I advised by sewing instructor I can't sew a straight line....and this is proof....after 4 blue eyebrows that did not match....I gave up and used brown felt!

The patterns came from pinterest......check out my Hootie Hoo board and For The Birds.....

The face took me 2 hrs.....did I tell you I am s-l-o-w?

I even stuffed each part....the abdomen, face, wings and body, of course....I did hand sew more than I wanted because the poor bird was too small for my machine....

So thankful for the free fabric! The only thing I added was an orange bird.....

I used T!M HOLTZ ribbon for stringing them up on the natural grapevine wreath, which just happens to be heart shaped.....

Below: the entire gang cuddles together for the photo shoot....how very sweet

I made the small one first, then realized the pattern was really made for PAPER not FABRIC.

The 2nd time around allotted for seam allowance....lol

In this picture you can't tell the Mom owl from the baby owl....

Oh my....I thought I was done....my daughter has made a slight adjustment:

I agree.....replacing the ribbon with a natural fiber looks better!

I may add some feathers later.......we'll just see what the parents would like!

Creative Hangups/Fall Wreath

Talk about Trash to Treasure.......The Tour Eiffel has found a home. I received a set of shutters from my son and his wife back in the spring before they sold their home. These shutters were old, "wormy" and green. No real worms....just holes....anyway, I decorated them for their new home using Annie Sloan paint and knowledge gained from the painting class I took this summer at Robyn Story Designs. Shutter #1 was painted in French Linen. I added a Vera Drive sign discovered in an antiques store in Knoxville, TN. Bird hooks from Hob Lob complete the functional piece. A nice hangup area for Mandi's Vera collection!

Vera Drive found a spot in the foyer.....

I also added clear knobs that can also be used as hangers.....

We updated the fall wreath for the front door by adding more eucalyptus, flowers and feathers from Hob Lob and the H...

Tour Eiffel is in the LR next to the hallway and used for hanging anything you want....

This shutter was painted with Annie Sloan Provence. The Eiffel tower transferred to a transparency and enlarged to fit the shutter. Black thingy hangers were added for function.(Hob Lob)

It did take some time to paint....

I used the ASP cream diluted with water on a small brush to paint the tower. Several places had to be repainted.  My daughter said "Mom, did you sign it big enough"....ha ha.....with this much work to paint a piece....yes this is hand painted and took several days. The original inspiration came from Pinterest......

And below, at home near the hallway.....perfect for hanging diaper bags, Vera backpacks, etc.

It was a great weekend visit. It was comforting to find a  home for my projects. Thanks darling Mandi (and Grant) for trusting me to paint your treasured shutters!

Fall Decorations-Kiss Old Rusty

Thanks to Sabrina, my sister, I have a terrific collection of fall decorations. This morning I was putting together for the front porch welcome center near the front door. It turned out to be 1/2 day project....I asked my husband to clean the front lights....ended up with new lamps at the front door! Blessings!

My favorite new element....and the star of the show.....is the rusty barbed wire star from Atlanta!

It is paired with the rusty bedsprings pumpkin, also from Atlanta......

The clay heart is from Paris.....a trip with sister#3 last spring...her favorite pottery shop right down the street from the Artist Park, Montmarte.....

This clock was found in Paris at L'Objet qui Parle.....It took me over an hour to clean with q-tips all the dust in the cracks of this piece....

The yellow wagon is a gift from my other wonderful sister.....How cute is that scarecrow?

The fall plaque was created with Modge Podge, a canvas, and Ellison diecuts from scrapbook paper...

cut 6 leaves, 4 pumpkins and

small letters to spell fall.....glue down one sheet of fall paper, arrange the elements and glue following directions on the Modge Podge container.....

I spruced up the fall wreath with some hydrangeas.

The wheat bundle helps fill the space against the white wall of the house.

I did use a real plant in the shabby chic planter box....I grow ivy in the front of the house....

This is a cute, four-sided wooden pumpkin with metal leaves hanging from the natural bow....

Summer Beach Time

Have you ever made a visit to Daytona Beach ?....

You know your getting old when you take pictures of waves and birds.....at the beach...


ha ha .... we were on the 4th floor of the building we were staying in ....the original picture is far away....

My sister looked out the window and said " There's a bird on top of the sandcastle."

She was right, but at the time, I could not see it very well. So I just took the picture, not expecting the camera to be able to focus at that distance. My Nikon 65 is remarkable.

It was a lovely girls weekend!

Back home, my husband is trimming the hedge in the front of the house.  During the process, he found  four, empty bird's nests.

I thought I would share, since Donna over at Funky Junk Interiors is having a link party about bird's nest.....

One unhatched egg. Horton?

No feathers?  Just leaves..... Some birds prefer sandcastles to sticks and leaves....

Back Porch Deck

My husband has completed the back porch (deck off the master suite) and thankfully it will be a refuge for morning devotions with the LORD....it was cool enough this morning after last night's rain we so desperately needed....

It was a real labor of love.....in the heat (welcome to Florida) 94* at 5:00P.M. today

The steps were the most difficult....you know he just had to get fancy and curve the steps....

aahhh....a welcome retreat....

Flowers from Michaels.....placed into 3 glass vases and tied together with twine...I just used what I had.....

I just had to "stage" the chair....I didn't take time for the lemonade & iced glasses.....

I love using my Bahama bag from the last cruise.....It keeps my sunscreen and mags handy.

I just had to include the TN glass for my son and daughter-in-love......

Check out this old milk can I painted during my tole-painting phase....not too bad....eh? It's easy to copy a pic from a painting book if you have good carbon paper.....just time consuming...

Evidence of a 3 dog night ahead.....Nelson, Dixie and Bear Higgins joined us on the deck.....not for long...it is just too warm to stay long without a pool.....that's next on the list.... thanks honey....love the deck!
