Artist Park-Montemarte, Paris

Bonjour Peeps! This post will be a continuation of  our trip to Paris in June, 2013. I took so many photos it is impossible to share all of them with you.

After a breakfast on the Rue Cler.....stroll past the rose shop for more pics.....like I needed more.
Ride the Metro and exit Anvers. Look for the funicular which is a side car that goes up a track on the side of the hill. It takes you to the top where the church Sacre Coeur views all of Paris.

I have cropped all the peeps out.....summer is a busy time here!

At this point, we noticed new tents. I thought they had placed an area to protect the artist from the summer rains. It is really a summer dining area right in the middle of the artist park-and the artist are set up around the outskirts.

My niece decided to have a portrait done. It took a while so I snapped a few progress shots. The activity drew a crowd of young students. They were so polite, and requested permission to stand and watch, they didn't want to be in the way of my picture taking!

Above: students watching....below, I took a picture with one of my favorite artist I have never made a purchase from, until this year. She builds layers of paint on her flowers. Quite pricey, but since the watercolor artist I usually buy from did not have any small paintings available this year...... I decided to try something new.

I purchased one with reds and greens. You can see the restaurant behind us. I was somewhat annoyed with the whole thing until I realized this extra space would seat more of the summer crowd so we would be more likely to get a seat at our favorite restaurant at the end of the street.

I was right, it did not take long to be seated at Le Consulat.......

Looking through the window by our table you can see this:

Le Poulbot is one of the most photographed restaurants in Montemarte.

Le Consulat is well recommended. Best American hamburgers and fries in Paris that we've tasted.

Directly across the street from Le Consulat is the Galerie D'Art a pottery store that my sister loves.

I let the girls go in and held all the shopping bags so they could shop. I amused myself by taking tons of photos of the outside. It is an amazing shop and they wrap the pottery well for transport in your carry-on luggage.

After shopping here, we returned to the Artist Park to finish the day. More artwork was purchased.
There is nothing like buying directly from the artist. It is usually a better price than buying from a gallery. I was just so disappointed that JM Lambert had only huge, 300+ euro watercolors for sale....perhaps it is all he had left. I needed one more 8X10 to complete the master bathroom.
On to Plan B.....

Have you been blessed with a trip to Paris? Don't forget to visit the hill, Montemarte is a fabulous area for shops, cafes, and people watching!

Bonne Nuit!

Lunch @ Laduree, Paris

Bonjour Peeps!
Today let's have lunch at Laduree. The bakery began in 1862 when Louis Ernest Laduree first opened at 16, rue Royale. After a fire in 1872, the bakery opened as a pastry shop with new decor. In 1993, the Holder group turned Laduree into a boutique. I was shocked last year when I discovered the  Sucre' cookbooks were available in English. I have made a recipe from the cook book, finding it difficult to purchase several ingredients listed. Non-the-less the tart I made was delicious!

Metro stop: Saint-Germain-Des-Pres

This flag flies outside the original location.

The stores are painted a pale green. The windows change often and are delightful!

Inside there is an Asian influence....

There were large paper placemats with the Laduree logo printed in gold.

The 6 of us arrived early ordering at 11:00 for lunch.

The majority ordered the club sandwich.

I ordered the chicken salad which came wrapped in cucumber slices.
Beautiful presentation.....

We did purchase some dessert to go.....oh my the choices are incredible...

The night before we left we purchased some for gifts to take home. A box of your choice is a gift in itself......

The macarons are significantly more decadent than others....nothing can compare, just be prepared for the $hocking prices!

So now I leave you with a fleur~ from the flower market near Notre Dame.....

Is it because we are on vacation that everything appears more vibrant and beautiful in this city?

We did stop to smell and photograph the flowers.....with permission of course.

Where is your favorite place to lunch?
I read they have opened a Laduree in New York.....this calls for another trip.....oh sisters!

Tuileries Garden and Musee De L'Orangerie, Paris, France

Bonjour Peeps!

Let's visit the Jardin Des Tuileries and Musee De L'Orangerie in Paris.....shall we? Metro stop: Concorde-yellow 1

Enter the garden from the Southeast corner of the Louve property. There is a Library/Bookstore on the other side of the gate.

Immediately we noticed the plantings were in full bloom, much different than at spring break.

Admire the grand statues......even with a missing arm they are awesome....

Pause for reflection by the fountain.....which is not on this early? It's nice not to have a swarm of folks in your photos.....it pays to arrive early....These green garden chairs are hilarious....most of them are tilted back to allow sun on your face (gathering Vitamin D?).....This place is packed a lunchtime on a sunny day!

The gardens here were planted in pinks and purples.....

Since this is a sisters trip....pause for photo....this is our first trip out of the country. We have visited the beach and mountains together.....but this was certainly a special time! Can you believe that the LORD blessed the "Brown" girls, all in Education, with a trip to Paris?

Malachi 3:8-17 Will a man rob God?

Enter Musee de L'Orangerie and admire all the  paintings....
Inside you are allowed to take pics of the artwork without a flash.....except for  Water Lilies by Claude Monet....(Now the first year we took pics and no one said anything....but they are on my external hard drive)......

Yes....piano lessons.....my dad made us take lessons for 4-5 years beginning in the 4th grade.

As an adult it is enjoyable to play....but I don't practice as much as I should....

Portrait de Mademoiselle Chanel(1923) by Marie Laurencin (1883-1956)

Les Trois Soeurs (1916-17) by Henry Matisse (1869-1954)

Eglise Saint-Pierre (1914) by Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955)

A photo op....in front of the horseman and the Obelisque (where the French beheaded Marie)

Let's go shopping....in the Librairie De Jardin.....I purchased a card for inspiration....more on that craft later.....

The outside of the Louve as you come up from the Metro Palis-Royal/Musee du Louve- I'll be back to see what goodies await us inside this palace....

Leave me a comment! I would love to hear your thoughts......Where is your favorite place in Paris?
Get the gals together and make plans today! You can visit on a budget!

Paris 2013

Bon jour Peeps!
The gals had a grand time in Paris! It was a special "sisters" trip that included two nieces. The apartment had character.....which included an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower from the upstairs bed/bathroom skylight.

The 7th district is a great place to rent an apartment for the week.

Close to the best street in Paris....Rue Cler....thanks to Rick Steve's suggestions in his book....get one and read it before you go! Fantastic locals, shopping and cafes....

You must purchase roses for your table the first day in Paris.....they last longer here ....guess it's the cooler weather......

After a vaca in Paris.....you are ready to take on the world!
Enjoy your summer!
I'll be back with more Paris adventures....I need to unpack, burn some cd's with copies of the
1900 +pics I took....oh my, I need to learn to condense...

Springtime in Paris

Bonjour Peeps! Yes.....first day of spring....and thinking AGAIN about my favorite spot for viewing all the blooms in Paris.....  and the statues.....

Below: from the flower market near Notre Dame.....

All the colors of Paris look more vibrant....

Check out the shooting beam from the flame of the French Statue of Liberty.....

Below: blooms near the Eiffel Tower....park across the river....

Below: a view of the Seine River....

Below: St. Chappell.....they display the CROWN of THORNS worn by Jesus on Good Friday..........This church was built for that purpose....but now I think the display is in Notre Dame......

There is nothing like Paris in the Spring!  Forget San Francisco....I left my heart in Paris....

Au Revoir
