Hello again, Mr. Louve in Paris

What is a visit to Paris if you don't take the time to go visit Mona? It may not be first on your list....but we wanted to get better pictures this year.....

She still seems fuzzy to me....but she is several feet away.....and behind glass....

but look at what else we found....

I think she is prettier than Mona and dressed much better....what do you think?

The wedding at Cana is quite popular...it is on the opposite wall of Mona.....Jesus performed the miracle turning the water into wine....

I tried to get a close-up of the detail here. The light is horrible and flash is not allowed....

This picture had an interesting frame....

This frame had 3 panels in the shape of a crown....

This onyx dressed lady has an owl....

OK we could be here for hours looking at all these statues...

A brief look at the courtyard with the horses of Marly.....

We looked for these last year....they are on the other side of the Louve....you need a map because you could wander for hours and get lost.....

Let's go shopping at Laduree.....buy some presents for Christmas....sshhh....and a box of macaroons.....that cost as much as a small chandelier.....just kidding...

The flavors are incredible....so much better than any other we tried......

The perfect end of the day treat.....a chocolate/banana crepe from the vendor next to the merry-go-round across the street from Tour Eiffel....

Flea Markets of Paris

Bonjour Peeps! This spring break my sister and I visited Paris and found some interesting different sites. One was a flea market at Marche aux Puces. 

I did not take many pictures as folks tend to go freaky when you pull out the camera.

Really I was busy trying to focus on finding any bargains in the area....and in my price range.....

A lot of items were either too expensive (antiques are not a bargain like you find at Webster) OR the items I wanted would not fit in my suitcase.

I purchased a couple of stamps, some old buttons, lace and small items.

My sister also found another art market that had different artists. I found an art piece I wanted

of the Statue of Liberty made out of stamps....but opted for the post cards that fit my budget....

This is where we enjoyed lunch....the ham and cheese sandwich was huge....

the dessert remarkable

This was my choice....it was like eating a box of chocolate covered cherries....

This was Michelle's choice.....both incredibly delicious!

Take note: on your next trip to Paris.....Metro stop: Porte de Varnes.....walk down the street and follow signs....or look like a tourist with your map out and someone will point you in the correct direction!

Flower Market Paris 2012

Oh My! Spring Break is already over. I wanted you to see some pics of the flower market near the Cite Metro Stop in Paris just a block from Notre Dame.

My sister and I spent a week in Paris and visited the flower market twice. We just couldn't believe how beautiful the flowers are in Paris. Is it the cold winters? The petals are not melting in 87* weather (like we have in Florida......)

Not sure what the above purple flower is....

How about this blue orchid......I have never seen a blue one that I remember......I did ask the owner permission to photograph.....

The blue looks lovely with the yellow/pink centers....

We purchased roses from a flower shop on the Rue Cler......this yellow one was tied to the bag she put the items in......the can was a find in the apt. we rented.....I just placed it on the window sill.......Everything looks better in Paris!

Vintage wedding shower

It has been a busy month already with several showers. The vintage theme accomplished today was a group effort. Orange crates and a bread crate created useful areas to display chips and a train case for the cards.

This antique travel case provided the space we needed for cards and letters to the bride and groom. They will be married May 12th in Texas. This was the only weekend they were both to be in Lakeland. We elected to have a luncheon after church. The attendance was wonderful.....who said....just have food....they will come?

The drink station was short a table...but we made it work with Longaberger baskets filled with orange crush, IBC, and waters...then a vintage tin with 6oz cokes.

It's wonderful to have a daughter that bakes. Her cupcakes and cake pops are always a hit!

We kept the serving simple with cubans, fruit and veggies, chips and dessert.

This "tramp art" started out to be a card for the couple and ended up on a board, matted ready for signing. Fact # 93 idea lifted from pinterest.

Each table had a vintage lantern and ivy.

I need a bit more practice with my banners....note to self..... remember to use black or white letters. The silver did not stand out as much. No one seemed to notice. We served over 50 folks and enjoyed every minute of hosting.....we were so blessed to have a great crowd!

Anniversaries

I have been thinking lately about anniversaries. We usually think of an annual event celebrating a wedding date. Ours is in July....not quite time for that one. What is eating at me is.......... Spring Break 2011 we were in PARIS, FRANCE.....how can you begin to top that? How can I enjoy spring without Paris? oh my.....

SO....while my sister and I were cleaning out my dad's home to put it up for sale.....this little jewel hidden high on the wall in the garage was found. Oh yeah....what a surprise.....we ate at Le Consulat after visiting the Artist Park our second time around....so we were thinking...why can't we return to Paris? What is keeping us?

New projects for 2012

Happy New Year!

Have you made any decisions on how you will spend your year? I have decided to learn to draw. I know I was not born with the talent to draw.....but my husband bought me a book for Christmas on learning....

I'll post pics as soon as I finish the book. I usually draw a few students during the day when they are watching a video. After 17 years of listening to some of the same videos....a girl has to keep her sanity.......this should prove interesting.....

What talents have your decided to develop in 2012?

Ready for 2011 Christmas?

Well, here we are just a few short weeks from Christmas...or days.....are you ready? I am getting there at a snail's pace. It is time for some Christmas card crafting. Why is it I choose to make Christmas trees?

Wired fancy "Fuzzy Cord" ribbon from Walmart's Holiday Time collection fit the bill. Add a few gold bells, a red top with button and gold bling. Martha Stewart's cup cake punch for the bottom of the tree. Side panels of poinsettia ribbon and we are done with this model.

White fuzzy cord for this tree on the blue background works. The topper is a ready made white rose that came in some pack I bought some time ago....hey, it's about using what you have!

The 3rd model is made with fancy paper from Graphics 45. Fold the top edge and secure with flower. The flower was made from 3small flowers -Martha Stewart punch, and a Tim Holtz flower die cut (smaller 2 of the lot) for a total of 5 petals, secured with a small black brad. The tag punch is Creative Memories stamped with blue ink scripture from Luke 2:4.

Our Christmas family card was made the Sunday after Thanksgiving under the oak trees. Douglas set up the tripod. We did not attempt to film the 4 dogs with us.....so without our extended family...

P.S.  A recipe for you: Cherry Salad

From: A Taste of Victory ( Our church women's ministry cookbook)

1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

1 can crushed pineapple in its own juice

1 can red pitted cherries in water, drained

1 12 oz. container Cool Whip

1 cup chopped pecans

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

Combine first three ingredients. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Add remaining ingredients to the first mixture next day before serving. Garnish with extra nuts.

A friend of mine from Bartow makes this every year for her family. They love it! It is addicting and will quickly become a favorite dish! Joyeux Noel!

Fall Trip 2011

One of our favorite fall events is visiting our son and daughter-in-love in Knoxville, TN.....Go Vols! Grant's birthday happens to be in the middle of the leaf-looking season, which is convenient for all the Floridians trying to escape the FL heat! We head north each fall to visit and enjoy the LORD's paintbrush.... This year George's brother, Bocky joined us in the adventure. The project this year was a fence in the backyard to provide more privacy.

He rode a 2009 Nostalgic Harley Davidson Motorcycle to TN....

Grant and Mandi took us to a small town, Dandridge to enjoy the local color...

It is a small, quaint town with a drug-store, and small shops full of local arts and crafts....right up my alley I say......

Thinking of mother....teaching 42 years.....I took a pic of the Dept. Of Education Bldg. decorated for fall.

We enjoyed lunch at this cafe....even though our plans were to eat at the drug-store.... it was closed for the weekend.....

Southern Comforts Cafe....for sure.....great grilled salmon, fried green tomatoes and other delicacies were enjoyed by all....

Now...

back to the project......the fence.....lets rake all the leaves, fallen walnuts and whatever those prickly, sticky things are that is worse than sandspurs.....(did you say they were chestnuts?)..so the dogs can run, jump and play in the back yard...thanks for the help...Bocky....
