Sanibel Island Vacation

We spent a few days on Sanibel Island, near Ft. Myers, Florida this week to celebrate the 4th. Fireworks are illegal on the island, so it was a peaceful holiday. We spent the fourth on the water in Doug and Lindsay's boat. The advantage of this, of course, is to go places that cannot be reached by car. Grant found an island with his "smart phone" so we found the pass after an hour in the boat. At first I was concerned we would get lost, but having maps/GPS on the phone is certainly a plus.

We stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort on Sanibel Island.

#33 Did not appear happy we were near his post. You can see the pass we went through in the middle of the picture. Captiva is on the left.

#11 was taking a nap.....
We set up the umbrellas and stayed for most of the day.....

.....collected a few shells.....

This was sitting in my chair when I returned from cooling off in the gulf....
Grant had found him on the other side of the island....

This live one appeared when Grant took the shovel to the sand....rearranging
the pile to make a recliner.....this guy came out of hiding to see what was going on.....
I stood in my chair....as my husband was yelling at me to get down....
I don't like crabs close to my toes... Doug caught him and released him on the hill...
A storm was brewing in the east......we heard thunder....
We were bid adieu by the mayor.....
What a lovely time it was....to discover new places on the island.
Our favorite places to eat were: Island Pizza, Over Easy, and The Blue Giraffe. My fav shop was the Antiques Store....I have never seen so many old things in one place....what a collection there. Stop by next time you're in FL.
Enjoy the sunshine....but stay near water....you'll want to cool off!
